B. E. degree program in Telecommunication Engineering at SIT commenced in the academic year 2000-01. The Department has been accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) twice in 2007 and 2013.
The department has well-equipped laboratories in the areas of Communication, Signal Processing, VHDL, Microprocessors, etc. Students graduated from the department are
well placed in India and abroad. Quite a few of them have pursued higher studies both in India and abroad. Students of the department have bagged three VTU ranks so far.
The department started with an intake of 72 ( 60 + 12 lateral) students for UG programme, B.E., in Telecommunication Engineering. The Department has started PG programme in Digital Communication from the academic year 2012-13 with an intake of 18. The department has also been recognized as research center by the VTU from 2011. Currently, 2 research scholars are pursuing their Ph.D.
Presently the department is functioning with 16 teaching faculty members including 2 Professors, 2 Associate Professors, 12 Assistant Professors and 7 technical support staff members. Presently, the department has 4 Ph.Ds ( IITKGP-1,IITG-1,IISC-2), 4 faculty are pursuing their Ph.D. in the premiere institutes (IISc,NITK).

  • M2: To create good academic ambience for faculty and students by establishing high-quality R&D laboratories leading to quality research in Telecommunication Engineering and allied disciplines
  • M3: To produce graduates with technological competence, necessary professional skills and ethics.
Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)
The graduates of Telecommunication Engineering are able to:
  • PEO1: Build successful careers in industry, R&D Laboratories by applying mathematical, scientific and state-of-the-art Engineering knowledge with multidisciplinary approaches to solve real world problems in the fields of Telecommunication Engineering and allied disciplines.
  • PEO2: Pursue higher education by lifelong learning in the areas of Telecommunication Engineering and allied disciplines.
  • PEO3: Display professional and ethical attitude, spiritual values with effective communication skills and leadership qualities
A Graduate of the Telecommunication Engineering program will able to:
  • PSO1: Apply and analyze the concepts of circuits and systems for real time challenges in the areas of Electronic Circuits, Signal Processing and VLSI/Embedded Systems.
  • PSO2: Identify, design and develop solutions for complex engineering problems related to, Communication Systems using analytical techniques, state of the art simulation tools and hardware.
    PROGRAM OUTCOMES: Engineering Graduates will be able to:
    1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
    2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
    3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
    4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
    5. Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
    6. The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
    7. Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
    8. Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
